World Poker Tour announces first details of return to Australia later this year

Online qualifiers to launch in the coming weeks

The World Poker Tour is heading to Australia later this year.

The first details of WPT The Star Sydney have been announced, with the two-week festival scheduled to start on September 18 and run through October 1, 2025.

The two-week event will culminate with a $5,500 AUD buy-in WPT Championship event from September 27-October 1.

All registered players will be able to enter qualifying events online via WPTGlobal.com.

WPT CEO Adam Pliska said: "There is something truly special about the passion and energy of the Australian poker community,.

"It is an honour to deliver a Championship event that celebrates and rewards that spirit."

The event will be the first WPT Championship event to take place at The Star Sydney and the first WPT event at the location since WPTDeepstacks Sydney in 2022.

In a press release, Martin Coughlan, Senior Manager of TG Optimization and The Star Poker Manager, said: "I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring a WPT Championship Event to The Star Sydney.

"Sydney is the perfect backdrop for one of the most exciting poker festivals of the year. Having the iconic Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup here is a huge moment for poker in Australia - it’s a symbol of prestige, passion, and global recognition.

"I’m expecting players from all over the world to make the journey down under this September to be part of something truly special."
